TANIO to spark Creativity for children and young people in Yr Egin
Canolfan S4C Yr Egin in Carmarthen is looking forward to the launch of its new project ‘TANIO’ which will trigger creativity amongst children and young people in the area as a part of the exciting project.
Yr Egin was successful in its application to the Sustainable Communities Fund, which is part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund that is distributed by Carmarthenshire County Council, for the “TANIO” project, with £178,636 being awarded for the project.
The aim of ‘Tanio’ as a whole is to promote pride in the community, confidence and creativity. In order to achieve this and stimulate the use of the Welsh language and a desire to develop a career in the creative industries field, there is a special opportunity for children and young people to develop their creative skills in a series of weekly specialist clubs. The sessions which will be held every Tuesday evening will be suitable for primary and secondary school pupils from year 4 to year 10 and they will be free.
The clubs will begin on Tuesday, 23rd January.
ASBRI is the club for pupils in years 4–6 which is held between 16:00–17:00, then between 17:00 and 18:00 the CLIC club is held for children in years 7–9, and for pupils in year 10+ the SLIC club is held between 18:00– 19:00. Everyone will have the opportunity to learn, develop and share media and digital skills in the company of experienced practitioners.

“As a young person, the opportunities and skills gained by participating in creative clubs like SLIC have been invaluable. I have gained self-confidence, and the clubs have provided varied work experiences, including contributing to events such as the Urdd Eisteddfod with Afanti.
“To see that creative club provision is available to young children today is truly fantastic. If such opportunities were available when I was 12, I would undoubtedly have seized the opportunity.”
Osian Evans from the company Moilin, who has an office in Yr Egin, will lead the first series of sessions and he is looking forward to welcoming a good number to the centre:
“I hope that this programme will not only teach them how to use the creative equipment, but will free their imagination, and help them to discover their voices, and to use the power of digital media to make a difference in their communities and the wider world.”

“In Yr Egin, nurturing talent is a central aim. We prioritise giving children and young people freedom to express their creativity in a safe environment, that is facilitated by professionals to gain new skills. This is the exact aim of the creative clubs. We look forward eagerly to welcoming the new members of the clubs to Yr Egin, and encourage everybody to register as soon as possible to ensure a place. Asbri, Clic and Slic will offer valuable opportunities for the development of the county’s children and young people, especially by sparking their creativity and their digital skills.”
A further element of the TANIO project is to develop an online ‘local television’ service for Carmarthenshire, a digital channel which will share personal stories about living in the county, its heritage and its culture. The clubs will feed into the channel and the team at Yr Egin are looking forward to ensuring linguistic, cultural and creative impact as a result of this exciting project.
