Swansea’ Waterfront City Has Something to Offer Everyone

Swansea has a mixture of independent shops which offer a huge variety of niche products alongside the big-name stores. Drop into the famous Swansea Market for a vast array of stalls from electrical goods to food and fresh produce, including the renowned cockles and laverbread. 

The city centre is also home to a bowling complex, laser tag, and two large cinemas for everyone to enjoy.

Next to our SA1 waterfront campus, where the city meets the sea, Swansea Marina is situated in the award-winning Maritime Quarter area of Swansea. Annual events include the Waterfront Winterland with its fair and ice skating, the annual Air Show, and a number of sports events including park runs both a 5 and 10K.

Have a Great Night Out

Wind Street is home to a variety of bars, clubs, and restaurants for students to enjoy and indulge in – a student night on a Wednesday is not something to be missed!  

Swansea was awarded its 9th Purple Flag in 2023. Highlighting how visitors can expect an entertaining, diverse, safe, and enjoyable night out.

Sitting in the heart of the Copr Bay development, Swansea Arena is a landmark 3,500-capacity indoor arena that opened its doors in March 2022 and attracts some of the world’s top names in entertainment.  

The historic Swansea Grand Theatre is also full of charm and atmosphere and provides the public with a broad range of cultural, artistic, and general entertainment events. 

Take in Some Culture or Sport

Swansea is home to several internationally renowned galleries including the Glynn Vivian and Mission Gallery. Other cultural venues include Swansea Museum, the National Waterfront Museum, and The Dylan Thomas Centre. 

Swansea is home to Swansea City AFC, Swansea RFC, and Glamorgan County Cricket Club. A range of professional sport for you to enjoy!

Get Active

Swansea is an active city with plenty of opportunities to try a range of land and water-based activities. This includes surfing, cycling, paddle boarding, kayaking, golf, tennis, and kite surfing to name a few. The LC is Wales’ premier Waterpark and Leisure Complex.  

Wales National Pool also offers a 50m pool. As a student with us, you will also have access to our cross-campus Academy of Sport. 

Further Afield… 

Mumbles is a well-loved area of Swansea with an array of boutique shops, cafes, bars, a castle, a lighthouse, a Victorian pier, and of course the legendary Joe’s ice- cream. 

Parks and green spaces are plentiful in Swansea many of which are within walking distance of our campuses including Clyne Gardens, Singleton Botanical Gardens and boating lake, Victoria Park, Brynmill Park, and Cwmdonkin Park, with its links to Dylan Thomas. These green spaces are great places in which to relax, revise, and spend time with friends all within easy walking or cycling distance of the city centre.

The Gower Peninsula is just a short drive from Swansea city centre, designated as the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956 the 19-mile-long Peninsula, which starts at Mumbles and extends westwards, is most famous for its beautiful coastline and stunning beaches – a favourite destination for walkers and surfers alike.
