A partnership involving the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is helping residents across south west wales access high-quality education and information through its libraries.

The Libraries Together Passport Scheme covers Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Powys, and Pembrokeshire and helps public library users overcome financial barriers usually associated with acquiring study materials and enhancing research skills.

The scheme promotes the love for reading beyond academic reasons and fosters environmental sustainability by encouraging borrowing over buying.

It opens doors to public, further education, higher education, and health board libraries.

Alison Harding, Executive Head of Library and Learning Resources said: “It is wonderful that the academic, health and public libraries across west Wales have continued in their commitment to support the widening access and lifelong learning agendas of our respective organisations, as well as those of the broader national landscape.

“This Libraries Together Passport enables all members of our diverse communities to connect with a huge range of learning resources in safe and welcoming spaces, alongside the support from the highly skilled and experienced staff of all our services.”

To qualify as an external borrower members must fill out a Libraries Together passport form at their closest public library and have it stamped by a staff member.

They can bring this stamped passport and their valid public library card to a UWTSD Library branch. These documents should be presented on all visits.

Associate director Robin Armstrong Viner, head of libraries at Swansea University said : “Swansea University is delighted to be renewing its commitment to the Libraries Together Passport Scheme, making sure every member of our regional community is able to access the rich collections we hold and care for.

“Providing these resources to all members of the public, regardless of their background, is vital to developing knowledge and skills in South West Wales.”
