Alun Jones

Just over a year ago, Alun Jones, a 2013 Carmarthen graduate was in a stable job managing a social media team for a television broadcaster until a conversation with a colleague inspired him to hand in his resignation and embark on a new business venture.

Reflecting on this journey, Alun said:

“For a long time I wanted to establish a business of my own to be able to work for myself. Over coffee one day, a colleague of mine revealed she shared a similar vision, and together we decided that it was the right time in our careers to turn ambition into reality and make this venture happen.

“After spending time researching and mapping out a plan, we took the leap and haven’t looked back since, as soon after leaving our full time roles, work picked up quickly.”

Alun Jones and Elan Iâl Jones, founders of Libera

With his business partner, Elan Iâl Jones, Alun founded Libera, a creative digital agency offering digital advertising, training and consultation, and content creation. They do this while offering a fully bilingual service - in Welsh and English - making them stand out from other digital agencies in Wales and filling a gap in the market.

A year on, Libera has built a list of prominent Welsh clients including the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, the Welsh Rugby Union and Tinint, and has organised Wales’ first social media conference, Social Media Conference Cymru, attracting 280 delegates to the Principality Stadium, Cardiff in September 2023.

Alun’s journey into the world of social media began informally as he volunteered to run social media pages for the Welsh rugby union team, the Scarlets. His dedication led him to become a Graduate Social Media Ambassador for UWTSD after he completed his Business Information Technology degree. From here, his hobby evolved into a profession, ultimately leading him to where he is today.

Expressing his passion for the industry, Alun said:

“What I love most about working in this industry is that it’s continually changing. You have to keep up and adapt with it, and that’s a challenge that gives me a buzz. I’m always learning something new and developing my skills.

“A year on, I’m still loving the challenge of running a company, particularly as we look towards the next step in our development and grow the team in the very near future.”

Students and alumni looking to follow in Alun’s entrepreneurial footsteps can seek support from UWTSD’s Enterprise team.
